We have two gorgeous fur-babies. Maddie, a seven-year-old Lab/Pyrenees mix, and Steve, a nine-month-old Lab. Todd bought Maddie from a breeder in Tennessee as a Christmas surprise for me. We found Steve when H.E.A.R.T Animal Rescue (of Niceville) posted an urgent transport request for a mother and her six newborn puppies from Bay County Animal Control to Lakeland, FL.

We had never done anything like that, but if they didn't have a transport, they would all be euthanized. I immediately replied, volunteering to take them to safety. Todd, our boys, and I loaded up a truck and picked them up and took them to meet the transporter from Big Dog Ranch Rescue in Wellington, FL. Of course, my heart melted to part with them, as we had all fell in love with the mom and her puppies immediately. The thought of them not making it out of the shelter broke my heart.

As soon as we came home from the trip, I put in an application to adopt one of the male puppies. I waited about a month before I told Todd. Luckily, he was more than okay with this and shortly after, we brought Steve home. Steve's mom, his brothers and sisters were all adopted quickly.

We wouldn't trade either of our dogs for the world. We are avid supporters of rescue animals and the shelters that get them to safety. For every real estate closing we have at 30A Group, we donate a percentage to Alaqua Animal Refuge. We also help sponsor local shelter events like the Furry Fest held at Gulf Place in February.
